She based the story on research from John Dent who oversaw the excavation of the ruins of the architectural wonder that was Nonsuch Palace. The story is beyond captivating. It's a love story that takes in three different time periods but written so masterfully that it's believable, even for someone such as myself who doesn't believe in reincarnation. Nonsuch endures.

I had this book before but couldn't locate my copy. I wanted to read it again so I ordered it.
I read the first book, paperback, into oblivion. Obviously, I like this story very much and will continue to read the new book until it falls apart.
My all-time favourite novel, bar none.

I first came across it thirteen years ago, when staying in a bed & breakfast in Galway - it was sitting on a locker beside the bed and the unusual title caught my attention. I basically speed-read it that night, getting about two hours' sleep - I couldn't put it down.

Nine years later, having searched every shop in Dublin (in vain) I came across it on . Every aspect of this book is absolutely fascinating. The romance is dealt with in a manner that is intelligent, interesting and profoundly poignant and, unlike so many of today's novels, there are no graphic sex scenes to pander to the lowest common denominator - it is a love story in the truest sense of the word. The paranormal aspect is as essential to the story as the romance - the two combine to define the theme of the book.

This book is recommended without hesitation. I've often thought that it would make a good film, but I shudder to think of the mess Hollywood would make of it...
I love this book. It's one I go back and re-read. Lovely story that's well written. Outlander fans should put this on their list.
I read this book a few years ago and found it fascinating. It stayed with me, and after losing my copy of it I had to try and find another to replace it. And I am glad I did. If you like time travel, murder mysteries, and a good old fashioned love story this book is for you. I just hope it will be available for the sometime soon.
Okay, this is one of those An-American-Goes-to-England-and-Meets-the-Reincarnation-of-their-True-Love-Who-They-first-saw-in-a-Portrait-Books. (I love this story in all its variations whether its Laura, The Ghost and Mrs.Muir, The Bassumtyte Treasure or any if Lynn Kurland's books).

However
--It is told from male perspective (unusual)
--The "twist" in the original romance-he loves her, but not enough to give up his dream, is unusual.
--It is odd to think of the role of art--especially paintings--which seem almost immortal, witnesses to so many brief human lives.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good book that takes you into other places and lives especially if you like Phillipa Gregory, Jean Plaidy, or books like The Sea Inside or The Forgotten Garden.
Sometimes I read a book based on the title and sometimes the author. In this case both "lured" me in and I was not disappointed. I had run across Mary Luke's book The Ivy Crown a few years ago and was intrigued by the style and substance. The Nonsuch Lure is one of those few books where after finishing, I reread parts of it to get a fuller understanding. A marvelous imagining of love that stands the test of time and the possibilities that await. A well done and well researched piece of historical fiction that gives s glimpse of life in three different time periods with the added bonus of interactions with real historical figures, at least in one era, and a good dose of the supernatural.
